No matter your opinion on the merits of restructuring Town services or, as we prefer to call it, 'modernization,' it is indisputable that the tax burden of New Yorkers– specifically residents of downstate New York– is heavy, and one that impacts households, communities and businesses in a variety of ways. Here is some objective regional tax data:

- Homeowners in Westchester pay the highest property taxes in the U.S., with an average annual bill of $16,493 in 2016, according to ATTOM, which studied 586 counties with populations of 100,000 or more.
- 73.4% of homes in Westchester pay more than $10,000/year in property taxes. Under the new federal tax laws, state and local tax deductions (this includes property taxes and income taxes) are capped at $10,000 per year.
